Cupping Therapy

Using Silicone and Vacuum Cups

There are two types of cupping that I use, Vacuumed or Silicon and they can be used separately or together, depending on the issue and your preference.

Cupping is a therapy in which a vacuumed cup by fire or mechanical devices is placed onto the affected area of any part of the body for treatment purposes.  This treatment is predominantly used to disperse stagnation and expel pathogenic factors from the surface layers of the body in order to promote the circulation of the blood and Qi (energy).

Silicon cupping is like Deep Tissue but instead of putting pressure on the area, the cups are pulled up with a sliding motion.

Both Cupping has been found to affect the body up to 4 inches into the tissues, causing tissues to release toxins, activate the lymphatic system, clear colon blockage, help activate and clear veins, arteries and capillaries, stimulate the skin, clear stretch marks and improve blood circulation.

The cupping mechanism exerts suction pressure on the surface of the body and increases blood flow to the inside cup areas and stimulates muscle tissues.  In all forms of suction cupping therapy, a vacuum is created.  Modern silicone cupping or air cupping, or traditional fire cupping all have the same effect. Nowadays air cup (plastic cup) and silicone cup are now used, this has made the application of the cupping easier and safer.

Meridians are the conduits in the body through which Qi flows to every part of the body and through every organ and tissue.  When the meridians or acupressure points (acupressure points are along the meridians) are stimulated, it allows invigorating Qi to travel the whole length of the body.

The Qi is constant and vigorous movement of energy or life force that keeps us healthy and alive.  Balancing the Qi  promotes blood circulation and the removal of toxic  heat, stagnant blood and lymph fluid from the body.

When circulation is sluggish or compromised in an injured or diseased area of the body, insufficient oxygen gets to the cells. This results in a local build-up of waste products such as dead, static blood, lymph, cellular debris, and toxins.  Cupping can leave marks which indicate that stagnation or disease has been moved from the deeper tissue layers to the surface, thus allowing fresh oxygenated blood to nourish and heal the underlying areas.

The colour and pattern of the marks depend on the level of stagnation in the area and range from a bright red to dark purple, usually lasting 3 days to a week and sometimes longer depending on age and lifestyle.  If there is no stagnation present, there will be only a light pink mark which disappears in a few minutes to a couple of hours.  Areas where there are old traumas or injury may require multiple cupping treatments to remove all stagnation.

The use of Magnetic Apparatus Suction Cups (Biomagnetic) are also be used for addressing joint discomfort and trigger points.

Oil or Honey cupping treatment.  Back, buttocks and legs, scar tissue, constipation,  joint pain or cellulite treatment.  Cupping therapy can be incorporated within your massage.

Benefits of Cupping

Cupping addresses all of the below by means of suction stimulating blood circulation, encouraging the metabolism within the skin tissue, a rise in skin temperature, muscle tension release, better working sweat and sebaceous glands and improving QI flow.

  • Eliminates stagnated Qi

  • Increases blood flow to skin and  muscle

  • Lift connective tissue

  • Looses adhesion

  • Released rigid soft tissue

  • Releases tight muscle

  • Removes excess fluid and toxin

Disadvantages of Cupping

Cupping can causes bruising, whether it's circular bruising or large areas of streaks from Silicon cupping.  These bruises are not unhealthy but good bruises. You are always briefed about the possibility of bruises before your session.

Abdomen

Increases peristaltic movements and the secretion of the digestive fluids.

Bones

Cupping helps to realign and balance ligaments and bones.

Meridians

The 14 meridians are connected to the organs.  When particular points are stimulated it will affect the organs, stagnant blood and body fluids.  It will also stimulate the circulation of the blood and the nervous system.

Muscles

These effects have a profound effect on stiff and aching muscles activating the secretion of synovial fluids thereby alleviating joint stiffness.

Skin

The skin is the largest organ of the body containing blood, lymph supply as well as the nerves.  Cupping stimulates all these processes.

Nerve

CNS and Peripheral nervous system balance.

Foot Cupping Reflexology

Foot Cupping is a natural, non invasive way of stimulating internal organs, increasing circulation and restoring bodily functions back to normal. When combined with Cupping, Reflexology treatments are enhanced.   Foot Cupping as with Reflexology can help reduce stress, relieve pain, increase energy, improve circulation, cleanse the body of toxins, improve health and strengthen the immune system. Reflexology can also assist in weight loss, overcoming addictions Plantar fasciitis, Morton Neuroma and scar tissue.

Cellulite Cupping
Cupping can be used in the treatment of cellulite. Light pressure cupping provides powerful, targeted lymphatic drainage and heavier pressure applications can also be used to stimulate circulation and loosen the connective tissues to reduce or eliminate that orange peel appearance. You will start to notice the difference in the appearance of your cellulite after regular treatments after approximately 3 weeks however this varies on individuals.

Abdominal Cupping
Cupping is an excellent therapy for the abdomen. It stretches the walls of the organs, getting rid of stagnant waste and mucus and promotes the overall activity of digestion.

After an abdominal cupping session, people consistently report expelling an excess amount of waste immediately following treatments and an increase of eliminations throughout the day. Abdominal Cupping is successfully being used to help in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Constipation, Diarrhoea, Abdominal Distention and acidity.

Lymphatic Drainage Cupping
Cupping increases the movement of lymph locally and systemically with cumulative treatments.  Increasing Lymphatic output increases the immune system’s ability to detoxify the body and respond to stressors put onto it from disease, chemicals, stress and electromagnetic fields. Lymphatic Drainage using Cupping helps to speed regeneration of tissues and cells.

Post surgery, a person should wait at least 6 weeks before getting a lymphatic cupping session and clearance from your doctor.

Scar Tissue

Cupping can break down scar tissue restoring comfort and movement to the affected area usually after 4 sessions you will see a difference.
